Massage Therapy


The benefits of massage are many, and regular massage can be transformative.  Such benefits include better posture and alignment as tight holding patterns are released, increase in the body's ability to eliminate toxins, better breathing, sounder sleep, and a feeling of relaxation and peace.  

 Pilates of New Paltz  offers 3 basic types of massage: 

  1. Swedish massage is a full body massage designed to eliminate the maxium amount of waste material from th body through the lymph system.  This treatment encourages deep relaxation by stimulating the body parasympathetic nervous system which sends messages of calmness throughout the body.
  2. Deep tissue/Myofacial release massage targets a specific area of the body, releasing bound muscles and alleviating pain.  Although it is more medically oriented, it may be combined with Swedish massage to complete a full-body treatment.
  3. Warm stone massage employs the healing powers of warm stones that have been used for centuries.  This treatment includes stones being used in the massage itself, as well as being placed on or under the body.  This is a unique experience that brings a deeply restorative sense of peace.
